Fighting for Carroll County
I moved to the Granite State forty years ago when New Hampshire's economy and employment opportunities greatly outweighed those in upstate New York where I was born and raised. I purchased my first home in Manchester in 1997 and knew I had to get more involved and informed if I expected NH to remain the wonderful place I had chosen to live in a decade earlier.
Over the years, I volunteered on many local, state and federal political campaigns and efforts. After years of petition signature gathering and lawsuits against the City of Manchester, I am proud to have played a critical role in giving Manchester residents the opportunity to vote on a tax and spending cap which they approved in 2009. The following year, I was elected to the first of two terms I served in the NH House of Representatives. While in the NH House, I sat on the Labor, Industrial & Rehabilitation Services Committee where I served as Vice Chairman in my second term.
My husband Dan and I knew we wanted to live on the water and set out to obtain our dream. This landed us in East Wakefield where we have learned what an amazing community and region we are lucky to live in. Knowing that the things that make NH such an attractive place to live, run a business or raise a family cannot be taken for granted, I knew I needed to step up and get back to the state house to work to preserve NH's traditions and ensure that future generations can thrive in the Live Free or Die state.
Standing Strong on the Issues
Protecting Your Individual Rights
"All men have certain natural, essential, and inherent rights among which are, the enjoying and defending life and liberty; acquiring, possessing, and protecting property" As your representative, protecting and defending your individual rights would be my highest priority.
Second Amendment
As a member of the NRA and the Women's Defense League, it is no secret that I am a strong defender of your second amendment rights and under no circumstances should these rights be infringed. I will vote against legislation that is a threat to your right to bear arms here in NH.
Reducing the Size and Scope of Government
Government should be small, transparent and accountable to the people. While our federal government seems to continue to be out of control, here in NH, we can and must constantly work to keep spending low - which keeps taxes low - and cutting unnecessary regulatory barriers that drive up housing costs and burden small businesses. I will not support an income tax of any kind or any broadbased sales tax.
Education
I believe education has to focus on the child, not the building. Not every child learns the same and it is naive to think that they can all thrive in a one-size-fits-all system dictated by the child's zip code. The largest portion of your local property taxes is the result of local school spending. Expanding educational opportunities will benefit children, educators and the taxpayers who deserve to see better results from the investment we all make in education. I will support and defend parents to choose the best education option available for their children whether that is the traditional public school, a public charter school, a private school or home education. I will support parental rights and educational transparency to ensure the success and well-being of NH students.
Affordability
Whether it is the cost of housing, groceries or utilities, the solution is not more layers of beaurocracy or more subsidies. The more prosperous NH is, the more affordable NH is. Making NH more attractive to new or out-if-state businesses to set up shop in NH means more, better paying jobs. Housing will be more affordable when there is more supply than there is demand. Reducing regulations on building homes and strengthening your personal property rights can help increase supply. Homeowners and businesses are impacted by NH's high utility costs. Seabrook Station supplies NH with 50% of its electric needs. We should be looking at expananding this clean energy source to lower our rates.
Active in Our Community
In Manchester, I was one of the volunteers who literally built Manchester's only dog park - without spending tax dollars - and more recently was involved in the formation of Friends of Piscataquog River Park who clean, maintain and improve a 110-acre city park in West Manchester.
Here in Wakefield, Dan and I have joined the Lions Club and the Seven Lakes Snowmobile Club and are active in both the Carroll County and Winnipesaukee Republican committees.
I enjoy kayaking and paddleboarding, camping, and enjoying the endless hiking trails with Dan and our rescue dog, Jenny. I sew and paint and am not afraid to tackle most home improvement or outdoor projects. We also follow Formula 1 racing around the world.
